In February IBA made another successful trip to Washington as part of the 2016 NAB State Leadership Conference.
Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS), a member of the Senate Commerce and Appropriations Committees, addressed the conference along with FCC Commissioner Michael O’Rielly, who spoke to the enforcement against pirate radio and invited broadcasters to submit to the FCC their input on outdated regulations or burdens imposed on the industry that are no longer necessary. House Energy and Commerce Ranking Member, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) praised broadcasters’ role as ‘first informers,’ specifically citing radio’s lifesaving role during Hurricane Sandy. He addressed legislation he has sponsored to count broadcasters as essential services during emergencies in order to stay on the air.
On February 23rd IBA hosted Members of the Iowa Congressional Delegation at an evening reception at the Newseum in downtown Washington and on Wednesday, February 24 th the IBA board spent the day on Capitol Hill meeting one-on- one with Members of Congress. The upcoming Spectrum Incentive Auction, Advertising Deductibility and Radio Performance Tax were just some of the key issues discussed with the Iowa Delegation and their staff in those meetings.
It is this advocacy on your behalf that is the #1 top priority of the Iowa Broadcasters Association. Thank you for your support.
