The Iowa Supreme Court this spring amended its Rules for Expanded News Media Coverage to address new technology and newsgathering practices.
Journalists are now allowed to live report via mobile devices from the state’s courtrooms. However, they must request permission in advance from the regional ENMC coordinators and must also wear IDs that include their name and media affiliation, so the judge can distinguish journalists from other members of the public. Judges can restrict areas of the courtroom where electronic reporting can occur.
