Yesterday, Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (VT) and Ranking Member Charles Grassley (IA) introduced a “clean” bill to reauthorize the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act (STELA). The bill extends STELA for another five years and includes some technical fixes, but is free of controversial and unrelated provisions that could harm broadcasters.
This was such great news! IBA has been working closely with Senator Grassley’s office on this and we appreciate all their support.
A huge thanks to those of you who weighed in with Senator Grassley on this very important issue. It would not have happened without you and we cannot thank you enough. We encourage you to now take a moment to thank Senator Grassley and his staff for taking a stand on behalf of local Iowa broadcasters. You can contact them at:

Please let them know how much you appreciate their time and work on this!
It is expected the Senate Commerce Committee will introduce a STELA reauthorization bill in the next month, and we’ll continue working with legislators on a bipartisan bill that supports broadcasters’ ability to deliver important news, emergency updates and quality programming to their local communities.
