It is OK to use the terms ONLY in a bonafide news story, an advertisement for the game or by an advertiser who is licensed to use the terms in their ads…otherwise the use of March Madness, Elite Eight and/or Final Four in your ads is ILLEGAL
ON CAPITOL HILL
IBA made another successful trip to Washington as part of the NAB State Leadership Conference. On February 26th a delegation of Iowa radio and television broadcasters spent the day on Capitol Hill meeting with Members of Congress. STELA, Retransmission Consent, Spectrum Reallocation and Radio Performance Tax were just some of the key issues discussed with the members of the Iowa Congressional Delegation and their staff. These meetings are our top priority. The IBA advocates on behalf of all Iowa stations, serving all Iowa broadcasters through this strong lobbying effort.
Joel McCrea,U Clear Channel Des Moines, takes over the duties of NAB-IBA Legislative Liaison Chair, from Bob Day, KCCI-TV who served the IBA as LLC since 2001. We want to thank Bob for all his work and his 13 years of service! With his many District and Congressional contacts, Joel has been involved in IBA legislative affairs for over 10 years. He attends the annual NAB State Leadership Conference in Washington, DC and meets regularly with the members of Iowa’s Congressional Delegation, advocating our agenda on important broadcast issues, both at the Iowa Statehouse and on Capitol Hill. We look forward to having Joel serve in this capacity on behalf all Iowa broadcasters.

LIVE EAS TORNADO DRILL PLANNED FOR MARCH 26
On March 26 the NWS and Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management will test the plans and responses to a live EAS Tornado Test (TOR) to take place between 10:00-10:30am. This event is in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week and in preparation for the upcoming tornado season. Severe weather in Iowa is serious… be sure to check the operational status of your EAS boxes and communicate the upcoming test with the general public so they will be aware it is a test. The 2014 IBA Summer Convention will be held on June 26 at the West Des Moines Marriott. John Lund, President of The Lund Consultants, will conduct a full day Radio Programming Seminar, Mark Levy,U President of Revenue Development Resources will present morning and afternoon Sales Seminars for radio and TV account executives and IBA Washington attorney, David Oxenford will be on hand to cover all the important legal and regulatory compliance issues. KCVM-FM & KSTZ-FM NAMED CRYSTAL AWARD FINALISTS
Both KCVM-FM, Cedar Falls and KSTZ-FM, Des Moines have been named one of 50 finalists for a U2014 NAB Crystal Radio Award recognizing excellence in community service. NAB Crystal Awards recognize stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to public service with winners to be announced during the NAB Show in April. Crystal Award finalists were chosen by a panel of judges representing broadcasting, community service organizations and public relations firms. Congratulations KCVM & KSTZ!
2014 SUMMER INTERNS
Stations should be on the lookout for a mailing next week from the UNI Department of Communication Studies. With the financial support of the IBA through our IBA FoundationU, UNI’s Department of Communication Studies is offering a unique Internship Program – working to place Electronic Media Leadership students in Iowa radio and television stations this summer. The IBA Foundation is underwriting scholarships to help fund the program. Interested Iowa stations will be encouraged to submit an internship application for one or more of UNI’s Electronic Media Leadership students. The mailing from UNI will explain the simple procedures on how to submit your station application to UNI. Watch your mail and respond.
2014 IBA Alternative FCC Inspections with IBA inspector Ed Sutton, will begin in A u g u st . The IBA Alternative Inspection Pro gram sign up materials will be ready and sent from the IBA office to all stations in May/June for the August 1 start date. Plan to participate and be fine free.
